  • Vietnam’s Transportation in April 2025: Breakthrough Driven by Domestic Demand and Logistics Growth

According to the latest data from the General Statistics Office, in the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s freight transport volume is estimated at 949.1 million tons, an increase of 14.7% compared to the same period last year; freight turnover reached 188.9 billion ton-kilometers, up 11.5%. Road transport remains the primary mode, accounting for nearly 75% of total transported volume. However, maritime transport plays a key role in freight turnover, making up over 54% of the total ton-kilometers—highlighting its backbone role in import-export activities. Inland waterway transport also proved effective, handling 196 million tons (up 12.1%), with freight turnover reaching 39.2 billion ton-kilometers (up 7%). Meanwhile, air freight transport recorded a slight decline in turnover, reaching only 3.3 billion ton-kilometers—down 3.1% year-over-year.

Notably, in Hai Phong during Q1/2025, export turnover reached USD 8.58 billion, and cargo throughput at ports totaled 39.16 million tons—mainly exports to major markets such as the U.S. and Europe (according to Hai Phong Department of Finance). With these positive results, Hai Phong continues to affirm its position as a leading national hub for logistics, industry, and seaports, supported by an increasingly complete infrastructure ecosystem and strong inflows of both domestic and foreign investment. Mr. Le Trung Kien, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, stated: thanks to the strategic integration of economic zones, industrial parks, and modern seaport systems, Hai Phong is becoming an attractive destination for global investors amid the ongoing supply chain shift to Southeast Asia.

Recognizing the strong development potential of the logistics industry, the Government issued Decision No. 221/QĐ-TTg dated February 22, 2021, approving the Action Plan for Logistics Development for the 2022–2025 period, aiming to reduce logistics costs to below 16% of GDP by 2025. In addition, policies such as Resolution No. 163/NQ-CP dated December 16, 2022, and the National Digital Transformation Program are guiding logistics enterprises to adopt advanced technologies and innovate supply chain management models.

We believe that with the strong support from the Government and relevant ministries and agencies, logistics service providers in Vietnam are being equipped with modern infrastructure, technology investments, and favorable tax and trade policies—enhancing national economic competitiveness and ensuring the effective realization of sustainable export development goals in the new era.

With the vision of becoming a leading multifunctional logistics center in the region, ICD Nam Dinh Vu is committed to continuous innovation, contributing to the national economy and asserting its position on the global trade map.
